The Zoo

This past weekend my Dad came into town to visit with us, but mostly to see my mom and the babies. On Sunday my mom was off to volunteer at the Fabulous Fox, so we had the afternoon to visit with my dad and with a forecast calling for 60 degree temperatures, we set our sights on The St. Louis Zoo. We knew it was going to be crowded as all get out, but it seemed like the perfect time to introduce Ruby to large cats, chimps and hippos.
At first, she was pretty unimpressed.

First up, the bears. She didn't really get bears though.

So we tried the monkeys. Surely she would get excited about a monkey with a similar name and the appropriate nickname of "Miss Mischievous", right?

Meh.

Then, we got to the giraffes. And woah, did baby girl react.

Ruby Ru loves giraffes! She was talking, singing, grunting, and clapping at them.

She perked up quite a bit. I can only imagine she was saying, "And then we turned the corner, remember that Mom?, and bam! Huge spotted thing with a long neck! It was like thiiiiis long! And crazy looking? Oh, man!"

But the spurt of energy and excitement only lasted so long. By the time we made it to the elephants, we were ready for a nap.

Cousin Indio, on the other hand, had a full day of awesomeness. He loved pointing out all the animals as we approached them.
