Eating Solids

At our 4 month check up, Dr. Madden (Ruby's awesome pediatrician) said we were good to go on starting solids. It took me a month and a half to dive in. I can't tell you why I was hesitant to start Ruby on the next step, but I was even though she was clearly ready to join the rest of her family and become familiar with a spoon. Because spoons are awesome. At least to Ruby

First up was the traditional rice cereal mixed with breast milk.
In it goes...
first taste of rice cereal
And out it comes...
first taste of rice cereal
So hard to see my precious breast milk spit out.
But eventually Ruby got the hang out eating off a spoon and acquired a taste for rice cereal. It was time to introduce something new (again). Dr. Madden said we could introduce food in whatever order we wanted to. He had done vegetables before fruit with his kid to see if that would cause him to like veggies more than the sweet stuff. He wasn't convinced it had any affect on his kid's eating habits. So we selected carrots as the next in line.
And they were a hit

Carrot jars were a bigger hit

I think Ruby is happy to finally have a place to sit next to Indio at Grandma Kiki's house

And Indio is so sweet he even shared his Cheerios with her! (Which I thanked him for and moved back to his tray.)

I believe in that picture he might have been thinking "Whomp! There it is!"
